Following the recent events surrounding Brexit in the UK, the Department for Enterprise is offering additional support for Isle of Man businesses. At the end of last year, the Department issued a Brexit Business Checklist to help local businesses consider the changes and challenges that Brexit may present.
The checklist covers a wide range of items, including cross border trade, taxation, currency risk, product regulations, intellectual property rights, legal issues, and employment and staffing considerations.

The Department also expanded its popular Business Improvement Scheme. The Business Improvement Scheme provides funding of up to 50%, for Isle of Man businesses looking to engage with technical consultants to complete a range of business improvement projects. The scheme now includes financial support for Brexit consultancy up to a value of £5,000.
The Department will also be taking part in a series of Brexit sector-led workshops later this month, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.
The series of practical workshops are individually focussed on the following sectors:
- Engineering/ Manufacturing/Biomed
- Retail
- Food Processors/Exporters
- Construction Industry
- Visit and Hospitality Sectors
These are aimed at assisting businesses with specific and practical level answers to help address some of their considerations and concerns throughout on-going negotiations. Workshops will cover Brexit Business Support and Isle of Man political, customs and VAT preparations. The workshops are taking place at the Barclays Eagle Lab, Douglas, between Tuesday 26th February and Friday 1st March.
