The Institute of Directors in the South West has welcomed another qualified Chartered Director to its ranks – making the region one of the best performing in the qualification in the country.
James Savage joined the Institute in 2019 since when he has passed both his IoD Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction, both pre-requisites for qualifying as a Chartered Director. During that period he was appointed South West Ambassador for High Tech Industry and Tech Ventures.
James has more than 30 years’ experience in the technology sector, ranging from with asset management, professional services and general industry. He has acted as an Independent Director on the boards of ten technology companies since 2004 and spent 24 years based in Hong Kong in the technology industry, latterly as Founding Partner of HSBC's Asian Venture Capital business. He was also Chairman of the Venture Committee of the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association. He now runs his own consultancy, based in the South West.
The Chartered Director is a prestigious qualification awarded to directors by the IoD under its Royal Charter and recognises the high standards and capabilities that are needed for ensuring that the profession of Director is understood and placed at the heart of organisational life.
IoD Ambassadors drive greater connectivity with members, support learning and development and give a local voice to the Institute, while ensuring that IoD national policy reflects local issues.
James said: “It has been a great journey brushing up and codifying the knowledge I built in my career to date. I recommend it to anyone either looking to make the step up to the board or putting a sound framework around the board experience they already have. It offers a combination of practical training in boardroom skills allied with working on challenging scenarios that directors can all too often find themselves in.”
