Lisa's July Round Up

31 Jul 2018

Let’s get this show on the road!

It was just over a month ago that we teamed up with Neueda to host a private dinner in Riddel Hall with 20 of our members. Neueda facilitated this discussion between local business leaders and Kevin Barrow, Partner at international law firm Osborne Clarke LLP, around IR35 reforms within the private sector, currently being consulted upon by the UK Government.  Then began what we thought would be ‘a quiet month or two’…

Chairman’s Roadshow in Derry

We kicked off the Chairman’s Roadshow, sponsored by KPMG, in the North West on 19th July with over 80 delegates. This presented a fantastic opportunity for business leaders to take part in topical discussions regarding business in Northern Ireland with the IoD Chairman Gordon Milligan, Head of NI Civil Service David Sterling and the Derry and Strabane District Council CEO John Kelpie.

At this event, Gordon Milligan said, “Learning best practice from other business and public leaders plays a vital element of any business strategy as we aim to drive growth, improve corporate governance and create a stronger economy in Northern Ireland for the benefit of all."

We look forward to replicating this critical engagement in Armagh and Newry in August.

Coming Up....

Chairman’s Roadshow Series - Armagh

Taking place at the Council Offices, The Palace Demesne in the city on 16th August, the next event hosted by IoD NI Chairman Gordon Milligan is part of the Chairman’s Roadshow series sponsored by KPMG.

Gordon will be joined by Roger Wilson, Chief Executive of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and IoD NI National Director Kirsty McManus.  This event, which is open to members and non-members of the IoD, will feature a panel discussion and Q&A.

Chairman’s Roadshow Series – Newry

This event will be held in Flexi Work Space – ‘the ideal location to meet between Belfast and Dublin’.

This is yet another opportunity, outside of Belfast, to engage with key stakeholders in your regions to share your views. This will assist us when engaging with government on policy and legislation reviews.

Become a Boojum Addict

As headline sponsor for the Young Directors Series, Barclays will welcome us to the new Allstate building on 14th September for ‘Food for Thought - The People behind Boojum’.

It will hear from David Maxwell, the man behind one of the fast-growing food establishments in Ireland. In less than three years, the Mexican fast-food chain Boojum has grown from five to 18 branches, now employing almost 200 people.

A mouth-watering Boojum and tantalizing conversation are guaranteed at this event! Book your place here.

Supercharge your Leadership Journey at the IoD

We are delighted to launch The Young Directors conference (5th October in The Merchant Hotel, Belfast) with our headline sponsor Barclays and supporting sponsors Grant Thornton and MCS Group. Now in its third year, the conference offers directors the opportunity to gather in an intimate setting to learn, share insights and discuss the issues that matter most to them as well as joining strategic conversations and exploring new ideas in leadership practice. Take advantage of the Early Bird rate until 17th August and book your ticket here.
