Statement from Gordon Milligan OBE, IoD NI Chair on potential Restoration of Stormont Executive
Welcoming the news that the DUP has agreed to a deal to restore power sharing in Northern Ireland, Gordon Milligan OBE, Chair of Institute of Directors Northern Ireland said the organisation was ready and willing to work with a newly formed NI Executive.
“We welcome today’s news that agreement has been reached and there is now a green light for the restoration of the Northern Ireland executive and assembly. The IoD and its membership believes that our local, devolved institutions are best placed to make decisions and deliver for all citizens here.
“We would urge all parties and key players to continue with this momentum and that any necessary legislation can be passed at pace so that devolution can return without any further delays.
“Those involved will be very aware of the long to-do list facing the new assembly and it is crucial that work begins immediately to deliver on the transformation agenda and to tackle some of the longstanding social and economic challenges facing the Northern Ireland public. The IoD is ready and willing to work with the newly formed executive and will continue to represent the needs of our members and ensure their needs are protected.
“Achieving this depends very much on the long-term sustainability of this executive and we would urge all parties to work together and ensure that the institutions can endure the remainder of this mandate and beyond.
“We look forward to seeing what is included in deal and welcome indications that this is to be published in full tomorrow. Further information will be available to our membership in due course including details of any changes to current or incoming regulations.”
