IoD Essex branch were fortunate to be able to join New Holland Agriculture for a tour of their Basildon plant, where since 1964 when the first tractors were manufactured, more than 1.6 million high quality machines have rolled off the two-kilometre production line.
A highly enjoyable and informative morning started with a tour of the factory, which covers nearly 100 acres and employs 1,000+ people. As a global brand of agricultural machinery, New Holland products include tractors, combine harvesters, balers, forage harvesters, self-propelled sprayers, haying tools, seeding equipment, hobby tractors, utility vehicles and implements, as well as grape harvesters. Also on display were new innovations such as a hydrogen powered tractor farmers can refill generating energy from renewable sources.
Lunch was served in the showroom, allowing IoD members and guests to get behind the wheel and see these impressive, huge machines first hand. The visit was concluded with an interesting Q&A session allowing us to put forward our questions and New Holland Agriculture's hospitality & very warm welcome was enjoyed by all.
'Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed the visit to the New Holland Tractor plant on Wednesday. The factory tour was fascinating and the organisation and hospitality of the event was exemplary.' Robin Legg, IoD Member.
