Q: How long have you been involved with the IoD?

 1 Year

Q: Can you tell us a little about your career to date?

I have worked in IT for over two decades and in that time I have worked for SME’s up to large global corporations.  Holding a range of job titles, from Support Analyst to IT Manager I have always been technically hands on. However, I always had that ‘itch’ to start and run my own business and in 2005 I started a company that is now PalisadeSECURE Ltd, a Cyber Security and Technology company employing 15 people. The company is continually innovating and growing, it has to to keep up with the latest trends and threats in the market we are in.

Q: What do you hope to achieve as an IoD Branch Ambassador?

Cyber Security is an increasingly important and relevant topic for every company. I hope that I can share knowledge across the membership and offer advice where needed to help our members protect themselves, their data and systems from Cyber Attack. The more aware and prepared our members are the more protected we will all be collectively.

Q: If you could give your 21 year old self some advice what would it be?

Don’t be afraid, be confident and go with your gut.. every time.

Q: What keeps you busy outside of work?

First and foremost, my family.  I have three children and a wonderful wife and they all keep be busy. Outside of that, I help run a concert band in Shoeburyness and I am the Development Chair for the British Youth Band Association (BYBA).

Q: Are there any business related or policy issues that keep you awake at night?

Nothing keeps me awake at night – I am a heavy sleeper, but if I were to pick one thing I guess it would have to be Brexit.  It is not that I am particularly worried about the future because I think the British people or resilient and will thrive against any challenge thrown our way, but it is the getting there, the uncertainty, the political turmoil and point scoring.  I think, politically it is a mess but like I say, British businesses will react with confidence we just need to know what we are reacting to.

Q: Why do you think business leaders should join the IoD?

The IoD is a 360 membership organisation – it is not just about networking, they truly care about individual directors, their learning, their wellbeing and the companies that they are responsible for. The IoD gives you a voice, not only within your peers but throughout industry, locally, nationally and internationally.
