Ashley was born in Leicester and lived in the village of Rothley in his early years. Educated at Ratcliffe College and Leicester Southfield College, he went on to earn a degree in Commercial Management & Quantity Surveying on a sponsored sandwich course at Loughborough University.
After a brief role working for his sandwich company Taylor Woodrow after his degree, Ashley moved and worked in central London for leading independent Quantity Surveying firm Gardiner & Theobald LLP, where he gained his Chartered status from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2001. Ashley decided to move back ‘home’ to Rothley in 2006, now married and with his first child on the way. In 2008 Ashley took the step into setting up his own practice – Edward Cooper Young was born!
Ashley now resides in Cossington, with the firm’s HQ based in Loughborough where he oversees 43 team members providing tailored professional consultancy services.
Q: Who inspires you the most in business?
Easy my Dad. He ran his own construction firm and showed me what hard work and dedication can lead to.
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t be afraid of making key decisions – you will get some wrong, but you will learn from them!Q: How did it feel to win an IoD Director of the Year Award?

Q: What are your three key values in life?
As my father-in-law said at my wedding: Health, Wealth and Happiness in that order – what else do you need?
