The impact of technology is impossible to ignore in most sectors, and even the fashion world is being revolutionised by new gadgets, software, artificial intelligence and the internet of things.
Fashiontech is the innovative sector where the latest technology meets clothes, shoes, jewellery and a host of other wearable goods.
Also referred to as FashTech, this cutting edge world is going to have more and more of an effect on our lives.
Our Young Executives special interest group held a fascinating discussion event at the London Metropolitan University on the 18th April aimed at examining the latest trends.
What potential opportunities – or hazards – might the sector bring for entrepreneurs? Are traditional retail brands going to win or lose from the use of technology? How ‘fashtech’ fit are customers? Are we ready as potential consumers?
The panel discussion involved insightful speakers including Scottish National Party MP Dr. Lisa Cameron, Digital and Retail Innovation Consultant Jennifer Fruehauf, the founder and editor of FashNerd.com Muchaneta Kapfunde and Professor Simon Jones, Dean of the Business and Law School at the London Metropolitan University.
All of the speakers were able to bring their unique perspectives on what could be the potential future of Fashion Tech, including government initiatives aimed at promoting the sector.
The evening was followed by successful networking, refreshments and our traditional prize draw for a bottle of champagne.
