Gemma Ellison: Director of Culture & Engagement: Jackson Lees Group

Gemma’s remit includes an innovative, people driven approach to recruitment, an extremely active Training Academy with a primary focus on essential skills (what most people call soft skills!), an honest and transparent communication strategy and many other elements that contribute to an effective, productive, engaging culture.  

An award winning family lawyer by background, Gemma moved into the culture arena having shown excellence in developing the people in her team and exerting a massive influence on the broader culture of the business. Gemma’s combination of intellectual rigour, a common sense approach and a genuine desire to make a difference keeps a relentless focus on our culture that has paid dividends to the wider business. 

The leadership model is built with a focus on authenticity and empathy and, in our city and beyond, who better to model this on than Jurgen Klopp; What would Jurgen do is a question posed by Gemma and the foundation of her leadership model that she created.

Gemma will talk us through the six stages of leadership as embodied by Klopp including relentless inclusivity and the power of developing a team of leaders.

David is the MD of Liverpool’s Recruitment Company of the Year to add to his previous 17 awards in the industry. David is a passionate advocate for high standards in the industry. Having grown businesses from scratch to a £10m+ turnover in 4 years coupled with previously working as an Operations Manager and Account Director for a global recruitment business his awarding winning experience is hard to match in the industry. David’s extensive understanding of the skills and employment landscape is the reason he was chosen as the Skills Lead for the Liverpool City Region in joining the Liverpool Committee of the IoD. David says his biggest achievement is being described by a Global HR Director as being the most “normal” recruiter they have met.
