IoD appoints Barry Dowman to growing Suffolk team

The Institute of Directors has further strengthened its presence in Suffolk with the appointment of Barry Dowman.

Barry is group chief executive of Bury St Edmunds-based Styne Group, which designs and manufactures engineering, electrical and refrigeration solutions for businesses

He was appointed chief executive in 2020 to drive Styne Group’s expansion plans. He is also a supporter of The Benjamin Foundation in East Anglia.

The IoD supports its members to become better directors. As a branch ambassador, Barry will help to drive greater connectivity with members, support professional development and ensure that IoD national policy reflects the needs of local directors.

Barry said: “I am looking forward to working alongside my IoD colleagues in Suffolk to support local directors and build our business community. Through a commitment to collaboration and good governance, we will ensure that local directors are best placed to deal with the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

The IoD appointed Adam Lomas as chair of its Suffolk branch in December 2021. Adam is managing partner of Castor & Partners, a leadership development and talent management consulting firm focused on the Middle East and Levant energy sector.

Adam said: “Barry has a strong record of accomplishment in business and I am delighted that he will be passing on his experience to our members in Suffolk. There is no doubt that organisations are facing significant challenges in these unpredictable economic times but none of us should feel alone. We will maintain our focus on building connections, developing our skills and influencing the national policy agenda.”
