IoD appoints Barry Dowman as Suffolk chair

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed Barry Dowman to lead its Suffolk branch.

Barry is group chief executive of Bury St Edmunds-based Styne Group, which designs and manufactures engineering, electrical and refrigeration solutions for businesses.

He was appointed chief executive in 2020 to drive Styne Group’s expansion plans. Barry was appointed as an IoD ambassador earlier this year and now steps up to lead the branch team.

The IoD is a thriving membership community for directors that provides professional development, valuable connections and influence.

Barry said: “This is a great time to do business in Suffolk. We are using digital innovation and the latest technology to drive the transition to a zero-carbon economy. We also benefit from excellent connectivity with the world and a highly skilled workforce.

“My role is to support local directors through the challenges that lie ahead while giving them the tools to grow themselves and their organisations.”

IoD members range from start-up entrepreneurs to directors of large SMEs and international companies, as well as the public and third sectors.

“Barry has an enviable track record in business and I am delighted that he will be passing on his experience to our members. He is well placed to be the voice for Suffolk directors and lead our work in promoting the very best in corporate governance.”
