One of Northern Ireland’s best regarded Hostage and Crisis negotiators, PSNI Detective Superintendent Richard Campbell, is set to share the principles that underpin police negotiation in this section of the conference.
Det Supt Campbell will focus on how communication skills and knowledge of psychology helps identify who is in charge or in control during hostage or crisis situations and why engaging in dialogue is crucial to gauging the state of mind of the subjects involved.
He will be joined by Tughans Corporate Partner Ciara Lagan, Dealmaker of the Year 2018 who has managed and completed deals totalling more than £100m in the last year. Ciara was the first female to win the Dealmaker of the Year Award and has acted for numerous local companies on several rounds of investment, assisting in their development and growth potential.

Detective Superintendent Richard Campbell, PSNI - Workshop Presenter
Detective Superintendent Richard Campbell has been a police officer for almost 27 years and currently leads the PSNI’s Special Investigations Unit, responsible for Cybercrime, Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, Kidnap and a number of other specialist units.
He has been a detective since 2001 and has led many high profile murder, kidnap and terrorism investigations.
Richard has been a police Hostage and Crisis Negotiator for almost 15 years and he is currently the most senior negotiator within the PSNI.

Ciara spent 7 years working for international clients in England & Wales. Her expertise is in local and international M&A deals, corporate governance, corporate finance and restructuring. Since joining Tughans 5 years ago, Ciara has lead the negotiations on high profile M&A transactions, as well as advising investment funds and on restructurings. Ciara recently won Dealmaker of the Year at the Insider Awards.
Richard is a Chartered Director and Fellow of the Institute of Directors. He has 18 years’ experience as a managing director and non-executive director, and during the last three years he’s mentored 30+ CEOs. He also has eleven years’ experience as a strategy consultant completing over 50 projects across many sectors and from start-ups to FTSE100 companies.
Claire McLaughlin, International Women’s Rugby player for Ireland - Panelist
26 year old Junior Doctor who plays rugby for the Ireland Women’s Rugby Squad.

Ciaran Devine, Evermore Energy - Panelist
Ciaran and his brother Stephen Devine founded local company Evermore Energy in 2009 with a view to initiating, developing and financing low-carbon strategic infrastructure projects throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe.
Most recently they successfully developed the £80 million Lisahally Combined Heat and Power Plant in Derry – Northern Ireland’s largest renewable energy power station. As a result they know first-hand what it takes to deliver viable, forward-thinking infrastructure in the local electricity market.
Helen Kirkpartick, Chair of Neueda - Panelist
Helen Kirkpatrick, MBE, BA, FCA serves as Chair of Neueda, Independent Non-Executive Director of Kingspan Group plc and Non-Executive Director at Qubis Limited. Helen is a Business Consultant and has an extensive background in both the private and community business sector.
With a wealth of experience behind her Helen as also served as a Chairperson, Non-Executive Director and Board member with; UTV, Crumlin Together, Crescent Capital, United Dairy Farmers Ltd, CAUSE Limited, Dale Farm Limited, Wireless Group Plc, International Fund for Ireland, Enterprise Equity Fund Management (NI), Enterprise Equity Venture Capital Group and Northern Ireland Public Sector Enterprises Ltd.
Steve Harper, Invest NI - Panelist
Steve Harper is the Executive Director of International Business Group for Invest NI. Steve has extensive local and international business experience, with a strong focus on identifying and developing opportunities in emerging markets. At Invest NI, he leads the Trade Division, International Investment Division and Invest NI’s International offices to deliver inward investment and export growth targets.
Prior to Invest NI, Steve was the Business Development Director with Wrights Group for 5 years. He was responsible for growing the company's export business, researching and identifying new markets, new products and service opportunities. He also played a key commercial strategic role at Board level.
Steve previous positions include: Group Sales and Marketing Manager with the McAvoy Group (3 years). He has also held key roles in McCormick MacNaughton (4 years), European Sales Manager for Powerscreen (2 years, responsible for markets including Scandinavia and Eastern Europe) and Global Business Development manager for Mitsubishi Materials Japan (6 years, based in Tokyo, responsible for markets including Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa).
