"I am a strong believer that a business leader is someone who leads his business as a role model, ethically and professionally. It is someone who possesses the clarity of vision, drive and determination to make things happen whilst developing the next generation of leaders."

What would you say to anyone considering becoming a member and would you recommend it?

"I have always promoted the IoD to fellow colleagues as joining the IoD is a win-win proposition. As far as I’m concerned joining such a professional institution can be interesting and a rewarding discovery journey. My advice here for anyone who wishes to join is to reflect on his or her motivation and the expected desired benefits. The real value can only be harnessed if members are clear on their priorities through their personal engagement and continuous participation."

If you could give one piece of advice to fellow directors, what would it be and why?

"On a general note, I would state that the IoD is a platform for a ‘business leader’ community whose value is shaped and determined by its active members. It is up to us to make it the institution we want it to be. Sitting on the fringes and complaining about the state of business does not help. The onus is upon us all to make the difference by becoming part of this great community to make the future we desire."
