Nick Tompkins appointed as new Chair of IoD North East South Branch

With over 30 years of extensive experience in operational and corporate management across diverse sectors, Nick brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role.

Nick’s professional journey encompasses leadership roles in national, pan-European, and international organisations, spanning industries such as offshore wind, renewable energy, consulting, environmental science, oil & gas, technology development, and telecommunications, among others.

Throughout his career, Nick has overseen teams ranging from 5 to 450 employees, managed turnovers between £12 million and £120 million, and navigated various ownership structures, including private ownership, private equity, PLCs, OEMs, and general industrial settings.

Beginning his career in offshore construction project engineering, Nick has navigated through various operational roles to business development and general management. More recently, his focus has shifted towards leading overall business operations, performance, and governance.

As the new Branch Chair, Nick is particularly looking forward to engaging with local members and with their help, seeking to understand local needs and develop and grow the local team. With particular interest in professional development, advocacy and representation, and promotion of governance best practice, Nick is looking forward to working with area membership and collaborating with local and national IoD teams.
