Consultation on North East devolution

IoD members across the North East are being encouraged to take part in a consultation on the proposed devolution deal for the region.

The deal would unlock £4.2 billion of investment over 30 years. It is expected to create 24,000 extra jobs, create 70,000 courses to give people the skills to get good jobs and leverage £5 billion of private sector investment.

A consultation on the devolution deal has been launched by the leaders and elected mayor of the seven North East councils.

You can take part in the consultation which is detailed on each council’s website. The consultation runs until 23 March. You can also send letters of support to [email protected]

Sarah Waddington, chair of the IoD’s North East (North) branch who is providing a letter of support, said: “Devolution is of paramount importance for our region, delivering considerable investment and benefits for residents, communities and businesses.

“I encourage members to take part in the consultation process and provide support for a deal which will address key issues such as the skills shortage and the need to improve infrastructure.

“The deal provides a significant opportunity to make a huge difference to the people who live and work in the North East – let’s all get behind it to deliver for our region.”
