IoD goes behind the scenes at McLaren
IoD South Yorkshire’s latest event was an exclusive behind the scenes tour at one of the world’s leading supercar manufacturers.
The exclusive, fully booked event at McLaren, on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham, included a factory tour and a presentation from plant director Wes Jacklin.
Guests heard why McLaren had chosen to locate in the Sheffield City Region and how it has addressed supply chain issues caused by the Covid pandemic.
The tour demonstrated how the carbon fibre chassis that form the basis of all McLaren road cars are created.
The free-to-attend event was for IoD members and non-members and also included time for networking. In return for their hospitality, McLaren requested a £10 donation on the night from each guest for St. Luke’s Hospice.
Our IoD member guests gave the event a resounding thumbs-up. One called the tour “very interesting and informative” while another commented that it was “inspiring to have a business like this choosing to locate in South Yorkshire.”
Other comments on the night included: “Well arranged, an eye-catching venue” and “a fascinating insight not normally shared.”
A spokesperson for McLaren added: “It is nice to open our doors and invite people in after all the issues with the pandemic. The IoD were excellent guests.”
