Chartered Director Conference showcases innovation and productivity with Nissan plant tour

Innovation, productivity and unlocking potential is the focus of our second national Chartered Director Conference being staged at Nissan’s manufacturing plant in Sunderland on Thursday 13 June.

The IoD’s Chartered Director status is one of the most prestigious professional qualifications. The conference will bring together chartered directors from across the UK and those on their journey to qualifying to learn from experts and peers about how organisations succeed through innovation.

Nissan’s Sunderland plant is one of the UK’s longstanding advanced manufacturing success stories. Conference delegates will enjoy a rare opportunity to see first-hand how Nissan’s pioneering investment has helped to build the factories of the future, transforming its facilities and upskilling its workforce.

Delegates will visit the final assembly area of Nissan’s production line where more than 3,000 parts are fitted to the Qashqai and Juke models and enjoy an accompanying informative commentary. Finally, the tour will see how each vehicle is put through quality control.

The tour will be complemented by networking opportunities and speakers on the themes of innovation, productivity and unlocking workplace potential.

The national Chartered Director Conference will be hosted by North East (North) Branch Chair, a fellow chartered director and business leader Sarah Waddington who said:

“I’ve recently achieved the IoD’s Chartered Director Qualification and it’s been hugely beneficial in terms of professional development. Knowing the skills to be a better director and leader is so important as we navigate complexity, a forthcoming election period and a turbulent economic outlook.

“If you’re also a chartered director or on the journey to becoming one, please join me in an exclusive tour of the Nissan operations in Sunderland where you will be inspired by the world leading innovation on offer and learn all sorts of productivity hacks. It promises to be an insightful and exciting day and it’s a real pleasure to be able to welcome UK-wide talent to the region.”

Dr Delroy Beverley, IoD Yorkshire and North East chair said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity which is not to be missed. Through director development, our purpose is to inspire and guide our diverse member base to grow and prosper and what could be better than to see behind the scenes at this successful company.”

The conference starts at 9.30am until 6pm on Thursday 13 June and includes welcome refreshments and lunch, as well as return transport from Newcastle Central railway station. There is also ample parking on site at Nissan. The day concludes with an opportunity to join the group for drinks in Newcastle city centre.

The event costs £98 and is open to chartered directors, aspiring chartered directors and IoD regional ambassadors.
