IoD Wales Member Spotlight – Monthly Feature
Each month, we’re shining a light on one of our inspiring IoD Wales members—starting with those who were recognised at the Wales Director of the Year Awards 2025.
This series is all about celebrating leadership, sharing insights, and showcasing the diverse journeys of directors and decision-makers across Wales. Whether they’ve won awards, led innovative projects, or made a meaningful impact in their communities, we’re proud to tell their stories.
This month we welcome Rhian Mannings, Founder and CEO of 2wish Cymru.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself—what do you do, and which award did you win at the Wales Director of the Year Awards 2025?
I was awarded the Public and Third Sector Award which was a lovely surprise. There are so many amazing leaders in this sector, so I was thrilled to win. I established 2wish in 2012 after my one-year-old Son George died suddenly. Following no support for our family, my husband Paul took his own life 5 days later. 2wish is here across Wales to support anyone affected by the sudden death of a child or young adult.
2. What does winning this award mean to you personally and professionally?
Winning this award means so much to me. Personally, it shows that anything is possible and my hard work in memory of the boys is paying off. In 2012 I was PE teacher and today I am leading a team of 50 staff and many volunteers to help families during the darkest of times. I hope by winning this award it helps to raise awareness of 2wish across Wales. There are people struggling who may not know there is support available but also, I’m hoping companies and businesses who read about us, are keen to engage and work with us going forward to make a difference.
3. What advice would you give to other directors striving for excellence in leadership?
Be yourself. Be authentic. My door is always open, and I hope my staff know they can come to me about anything. I think it’s important to engage with your staff, to get their input when making big decisions and to look after their well-being. I always try to lead by example, never afraid to get my hands dirty.
4. How has your involvement with the IoD supported your journey as a business leader?
I have met with Rebecca several times who is always so willing to support my journey. I hope to come to more events next year and to use the opportunity to meet others. It can be a lonely place being a director and CEO, so its great to know you are not alone.
