The IoD City China Group was established in 2006
to promote greater understanding and interaction with China with a view to
enhancing business and other relationships between the UK and China.
The group was formed because of the long and
fruitful relationship which IoD City Branch President Sir David Brewer CMG, who
was Lord Mayor from 2005-2006, had built up with China over many years. He
visited China on numerous occasions representing the City and UK financial
services.
The China Interest Group is a focal point for
IoD members both in the City and beyond as well for others with a strong
interest in China.
Membership is aimed at those who are interested
in doing business in China as well as those doing business with Chinese
investors in the UK. Membership is also open to representatives of businesses
from China that have set up in the UK. The group works together with the IoD
head office at 116 Pall Mall and in partnership with other established
organisations in this are
Events have included business dinners in the
House of Commons in partnership with the All Party Parliamentary China Group,
seminars with a China focus, talks on education and training links with China,
panel discussions on venture capital and financing, Chinese New Year dinners
and a variety of other events on doing business with China.
