IoD Cheshire | Dinner at The Clink

14 Mar 2019
The Clink Restaurant Styal, Wilmslow

We invite our IoD North West community to join us at The Clink Restaurant at HMP Styal, for a brand new dining experience in Cheshire that is designed to transform the lives of women prisoners through work-based training and education.

Reoffending costs the UK taxpayer up to £15 billion each year. This has a negative impact upon society and our economy. Recent research shows that ex-offenders who find employment are less likely to commit further offences. We believe that our local business community can play a significant role in providing employment and training opportunities to transform individual prisoners’ lives. This event is an opportunity to hear positive personal stories and gain insights from local businesses who have tapped into the huge potential of ex-offenders to bridge their skills gap. You’ll also learn about how you might get involved and create opportunities in your organisation.

About The Clink

The women working in the restaurant are working towards City & Guilds NVQs in Food Service and Food Preparation and will be mentored following their release, to help them find employment within the UK hospitality industry.

Opened in April 2015, The Clink Restaurant at HMP Styal is an innovative restaurant that delivers change to the community whilst offering a high end dining experience. Awarded The Sustainable Restaurant Association’s 3 Star Award the prisoners in training use quality, fresh and locally sourced produce to create classic dishes with a modern British twist.

What to expect

  • A unique dining experience, within the grounds of the women’s prison.
  • A delicious 2 course course meal, cooked using fresh, seasonal ingredients and the latest cookery techniques.
  • You will be cooked for and served by 30 women prisoners from HMP Styal who participate in The Clink Restaurants' training scheme.
  • Please note that no alcohol is served in the restaurant due to it being banned on prison premises.
