Member community
A vibrant community
We help directors build their skills and uphold the highest standards of corporate governance. Whether you’re running a start up or an established business, we provide the resources, tools, guidance and peer community to help you lead with confidence.
Membership growth
Membership increased for the second year in a row with growth of 5% in 2023. The profile of new members continues to evolve, with a growing proportion of women and individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds joining. New members are also, on average, younger – reflecting a broad generational shift.

Regions and nations
We continued to support members on issues important in their areas. A major funding package from the Scottish government to develop business and entrepreneurship skills in schools. Significant changes in the higher education sector in Northern Ireland. Our Welsh State of the Nation publication printed in Welsh and English.

Events and activities
In 2024, members took part in over 400 in-person and online events, spanning national, regional, special interest and sector-focused themes. In 2025, we’ll continue expanding opportunities for members to connect, learn, and grow in ways that best suit their needs.

116 Pall Mall
This iconic place remains a cornerstone of the IoD experience and a thriving hub for business and events. Providing a space where ideas flourish, connections are forged and achievements are celebrated.

Member hubs
IoD member hubs enable members to work in a professional environment, connect and collaborate. There are now more than 30 member hubs across the UK and we’re committed to building our presence outside London during 2025, initially focusing on the North West.

Antoinette Bradley
IoD’s Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction empowered Antoinette to lead risk, governance and sustainability initiatives. A mentoring scheme inspired her to expand into ESG, delivering lasting business value. She combines strategic rigour with a human touch – believing strong relationships underpin innovation and purpose, even amid global uncertainty.
Martyn Williams
Martyn’s Chartered Director Qualification shifted his mindset from risk-averse survival to strategic growth. He now uses formal frameworks to spot blind spots and plan long term, learning to slow down for better decision making. He values the IoD’s research and peer networks for fresh market insights and support at the top.
Adam Kiani
Involved in education, retail and real estate, Adam credits the IoD network with opening doors – from finding offices to ambassador roles. He stresses that achievements aren’t solo efforts – success hinges on team strength. Inspired by ‘hungry, humble and intelligent’ hires, he says agility and people-first leadership are critical in a changing world.
Looking Ahead
We’re more than a membership organisation. We’re a thriving community committed to lifelong learning. As we continue to expand our training, mentoring, events, policy advocacy and more, we look forward to seeing even more members connect, learn and succeed together.
