Empowering directors

Annual Report and Accounts 2024

Helping members stay one step ahead

The IoD provides professional development that enhances directors’ knowledge, skills and expertise. We are their voice to government, shaping policy on key issues. We are a diverse and collaborative community, committed to mutual support and lifelong learning.

Chair

“When I took over last July, the Institute had just reported encouraging growth in membership and its strongest ever financial results. This positive trajectory continued throughout 2024.”

John Browett

Our growing, more diverse membership reflects the UK’s business landscape – a change that, alongside the quality of our services, has helped drive strong membership growth.

Director general

“Our strategic vision is to make the Institute a vibrant, relevant and successful organisation that empowers all directors regardless of age, ethnicity or gender.”

Jonathan Geldart

The challenges of a turbulent business world mean we need to run fast to keep up, but we are now equipped to do just that and more. The world needs better directors and there is no organisation better suited to taking on that task than this Institute.

Chief Financial Officer

Kate Cooper

Strengthening our financial resilience and maintaining reserves has been essential as we continue to face a challenging operating environment. Despite very tough conditions, we’re on track and, in some cases, ahead.

Nathalie Agnew

Managing Director, Muckle Media

Founder of Muckle Media, Nathalie credits her IoD training with the confidence and financial insight to acquire a competitor. She champions directors who engage openly, build relationships and tackle challenges head-on. Guided by a ‘can-do’ mindset, she believes resilience and clear strategy are the keys to sustainable growth.

Billie O’Connor

CFO, Mulberry plc; Founder, Nova Community

Through the IoD’s Certificate in Company Direction and board simulations, Billie honed her governance and decision-making skills. She believes great leaders ask questions and adapt swiftly, staying curious and building diverse networks to thrive amid market changes. Billie founded Nova Community to boost women’s confidence in leadership moments.

Looking ahead

We’re on the right course, the strategy is working, and we remain a highly relevant and effective members’ organisation. But there’s still more to do. The year ahead will offer opportunities and challenges and the IoD is well placed to take advantage, with more successes to celebrate in the coming years.
