IoD appoints Coventry and Warwickshire Chair
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed Abid Khan to lead its Coventry and Warwickshire branch.
Abid, a senior partner at Riverdale Insurance, is also the current President of the Equality Council UK and helped launch the award-winning networking group Chutney and Chat. IoD Midlands’ Rob Beswick caught up with him to discuss his new role and plans for IoD Coventry and Warwickshire – read excerpts of the interview below.
Why did you join the IoD and what has made you offer your services as first a branch Ambassador, and now as Chair?
Two things drove me to join the IoD, and then to get more deeply involved. First, I was looking for personal and professional growth, but also I wanted to give something back to the business community. The opportunity arose to become an Ambassador and I was keen to make my mark. It is important that the IoD reflects the aspirations and needs of all businesses – from one-man bands, through to SMEs and on to major corporations. It also needs to reflect the diversity of the West Midlands.
What’s your main goal as Chair of IoD Coventry and Warwickshire?
I think it’s important we create more opportunities for engagement with our members, so they can meet, create new connections and act as a support network to help us all overcome the challenging times we live in.
I’m proud to be the first IoD Chair in the region from a Pakistani background. I think my appointment speaks volumes as to the direction in which the IoD is heading, demonstrating that it is an all-inclusive organisation far from the image that may have been once portrayed.
