Lisa McGee to headline the IoD NI’s annual dinner
Derry Girls creator to join the lineup at the Institute of Directors Northern Ireland (IoD NI) annual dinner.
Lisa Mc Gee, the writer and creator of much loved sitcom, Derry Girls, will provide the after dinner entertainment at the leading business organisation’s gala evening returning to the Culloden Estate and Spa on September 28.
Around 400 delegates will gather for the sold out event which is being supported by headline sponsor Bank of Ireland and hosted by former news anchor, Donna Traynor.
Gordon Milligan OBE, IoD NI Chair, said: “It gives me great pleasure to announce plans for the return of our Annual Dinner and to reveal that Lisa McGee, one of the greatest writers and comic talents from these parts is to provide the after-dinner entertainment.
“The event offers business leaders a great opportunity to come together, discuss best practice and contemporary business issues while also enjoying the chance to catch up with colleagues and peers. I look forward to welcoming colleagues from the IoD network and across the business community once again for a large-scale event and with Lisa McGee at the helm, I am sure we are in for a memorable evening.”
Derry Girls, which first aired in September 2018, has attracted global attention as it follows five young teenagers growing up in Derry during the 1990s. It tracks the group as they navigate the ups and downs of teenage life, against the backdrop of the troubles.
Largely inspired by McGee’s own teenage experience, it has been a standout hit for Channel 4 and Lisa McGee, winning Royal Television Society Awards, Irish Film and Television Awards and Baftas.
In recognition of the global positive impact her work has had, Lisa was awarded the freedom of Derry City and Strabane in December 2021 and has also received an honorary Doctorate from Ulster University.
Paul Magee, Director – Corporate Banking Northern Ireland, Bank of Ireland added: “We are delighted to partner with the IoD NI once again for the return of the IoD annual dinner which we have supported for many years.
“As businesses continue to face a multitude of challenges, events such as the annual dinner provide a fantastic opportunity for leaders from across Northern Ireland to come together and learn from our common experiences.
“A tremendous lineup of speakers has been assembled and we very much look forward to joining with clients, IoD members, and others for what I’m sure will be another insightful and enjoyable evening.”
The event, open to both members and non-members, is also being supported by Arthur Cox and the Charles Hurst Group.
