Q: How long have you been involved with the IoD?

Twenty-five years

Q: Can you tell us a little about your career to date?

Chartered Director, MBA (finance), Accountancy degree and IoD Fellow

Financial Services background before advising SME’s as either a Non-Exec Director or adviser/consultant some seventeen years ago. Growbridge focuses on Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance & Advisory services. The company has been successful in raising over £55m finance for SME’s.Recently trained and accredited 27 Business Advisory firms to deliver high growth business coaching to SME’s. I am a Chartered Director Professional peer review ‘Interviewer’ assessing candidate’s practical experience as a director based on five key areas including organisational direction and governance.

Q: What do you hope to achieve as an IoD Branch Ambassador?

‘Sounding board’ for Essex Iod members who plan to grow their business or find themselves in a jam.

Happy to share practical advice gained from working with over 100 SME’s on evaluating an optimum growth strategy, acquisitions, equipping and resourcing vision, best management practice (gained from Iod Chartered Director), problem-solving, avoiding pitfalls and how to raise the right finance for the business and its situation

Q: If you could give your 21-year-old self some advice what would it be?

Find a successful business mentor or respected family member to provide wisdom and sound commercial advice. Join the local Iod and network like crazy.In my experience, most business folk will be happy to share business advice to passionate entrepreneurs freely. Understand finance especially working capital

Q: What keeps you busy outside of work?               

Involved in some charities including work amongst the refugees, counselling, drop-in centre and church schools

Q: Are there any business related or policy issues that keep you awake at night?

Cash flow or lack of it. Not having a buffer

Q: Why do you think business leaders should join the IoD?

Breakfast seminars. One lesson learnt or piece of advice received could save or make your organisation a fortune.
