Name: Emrys Green
Position/company: Director, Cloud Artisans.
How would you describe your business to a total stranger?
We are a consultancy led digital and engagement agency working with those who help others. We craft websites, digital products, media projects and engagement strategies.
We specialise in working with organisations who have small, or no, marketing teams and bring our understanding of organisations, their objectives and the business environment to help organisations be inclusive, accessible and sustainable.
Your previous roles: (N/A)
Other information (eg other positions held, charity roles):
Chair, Institute of Leadership
Vice-Chair, The Mighty Creatives
What do you do outside work?
I volunteer with a range of projects including guest lectures, assessment days and mentoring at my local university, supporting careers in schools with the Leicestershire Careers Hub, and supporting the production elements of my local drama society. My down time involves walking my dog Archie and watching a bit too much American TV series’.
How long have you been an IoD member?
3.5years, and became a Fellow in 2023.
Why did you join the IoD?
I joined the IoD to further develop my knowledge and practice of being a director so I could support my clients and charities more, with a view to developing knowledge for a couple of NED appointments alongside my existing work. The IoD has a strong reputation and a wide network of people to learn from.
Which parts of IoD membership do you value most?
116 Pall Mall and when possible, the events to meet other directors. Although, I also find the confidence index and updates on policy really useful to stay on top of what is happening in the wider world.
How would you describe your branch area to a total stranger?
One with promise, and lots going on around us in the Midlands. An opportunity to paint a new picture of branch level events and engagement.
What is the most important issue for the government to tackle?
Economic stability that supports businesses to invest and employees to not face the cost of living crisis so acutely. There should be consistent and future thinking policies that support small businesses to continue to have a great impact on the UK and provide employment opportunities.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself when you started out in business?
Spend more time on networking and not just self-development. And to think more about future scaling so processes and practices can be embedded from day 1 rather than adapting so much as business grows.
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years’ time?
The aim of my work is to have a positive impact on people and planet. Cloud Artisans, and our newly launched Video production arm Brand Narrative Media, will be a small agency punching above its weight, supporting organisations both local and international. My NED roles would ideally provide the opportunity to use my MBA and experience to grow and expand positive impact organisations on a much bigger scale.
