Welcome to our end-of-year IoD Essex Chair's Christmas Luncheon. Our final event of the year's theme is 'Workplace wellness' - which is incredibly important for maintaining a healthy workforce, managing work-life balance demands, fostering a supportive workplace environment and aiding talent retention.

Enjoy a festive three course luncheon, make new valuable business connections and listen to three expert keynote speakers on this business-critical subject - all in the grandeur and splendour of Hylands House, Chelmsford.
We are delighted to welcome singer, Maxyne Ryan who will provide some entertainment during the event.
Maxyne is an established, exciting professional singer, she has performed with various soul, jazz ensembles and celebrated gospel choirs. She has a smooth velvety voice that can soothe the senses or ‘raise the roof’.
She works with the UK’s finest musicians and has performed at many of London’s most prestigious venues as a professional singer.
World renown Guildhall School of Music and Drama is where Maxyne achieved a Master’s Degree in Jazz Voice. She was part of a select group who performed at Hyde Park in front of 80,000 people for the Papal visit.
Other achievements include her own gospel tour of New York City and as a music leader for a community choir.

Henry Stewart
Henry Stewart is founder and Chief Happiness Officer of London-based learning provider Happy. Happy was rated one of the top 2 workplaces in the UK in 2022, and one of the top 15 in Europe (in the SME section). They now help other organisations create happy workplaces.
Henry was listed in the Guru Radar of the Thinkers 50 list of the most influential business thinkers in the world. "He is one of the thinkers who we believe will shape the future of business", explained list compiler Stuart Crainer.
His book, The Happy Manifesto, was short-listed for business book of the year.
Mark Heasman
Mark Heasman is CEO of Provide Group, a portfolio of businesses that includes Provide Community Interest Company (CIC), a social enterprise delivering health and social care services in NHS and community care settings across the East of England.
Under Mark’s tenure, the Group has grown to a £100m+ income, growing in influence and reach, delivering outstanding contributions to service innovation and community impact. In 2022/23 Provide Community donated more than £500,000 to charities and community groups.
In the last three years Provide Community has won a number of prestigious awards, including ‘Highly Commended’ at the 2021 HSJ Awards in the Primary Care Networks, GP or Community Provider of the Year category. In the 22/23 Business Culture Awards Provide Community secured Best Public/Not-For-Profit Organisation, Best Culture for Innovation and Mark Heasman won the Leadership Award for Business Culture against competition from national UK brands.
In 2023 Provide Community secured two NHS Parliamentary Awards for service innovation, and Mark won the UK Healthcare Honours Award for outstanding contribution to NHS services; one of the UK’s most prestigious accolades for the healthcare sector.
Paul Durrant, Chair, IoD Essex
Paul is the current serving chair for the Essex branch of the IoD and has been a member of the Insititute for over ten years. Paul represents the public face for the IoD on local, county and regional matters. He also has a collaborative and co-ordinating role in supporting and mentoring a team of branch ambassadors, to achieve branch goals through principles of good governance.
Prof Mike Ferguson
Mike began his working life as a Chartered Engineer, but has spent the last 30 years as a Business Psychologist, researching the habits and thinking skills of some of the world’s most successful professionals.
An IoD Fellow, Mike has held various Executive and NED roles during his career, and is currently Director of Professional Development at Developing Professionals International. He also Chairs the Board of the Vine Schools Trust – a ‘family’ of 23 primary schools across Essex.
He continues to deliver work on an occasional basis at Business Schools both in the UK and overseas. He lives with his wife and two teenage boys in their self-built house in north Essex.
