Mark Durden-Smith Mark Durden Smith

Mark has most recently presented the AVIVA Rugby Premiership coverage, plus was one of ITV’s main hosts for the Rugby World Cup 2015 which followed fronting Sky's BAFTA winning rugby coverage. He also hosted ITV1’s ground breaking new gameshow Freeze Out.

Mark has presented This Morning on ITV alongside Kate Thornton and Myleene Klass while is a regular pundit on Lorraine Kelly's reviewing the papers. He has also appeared as a guest presenter for The Breakfast Show on BBC London Radio alongside Gaby Roslin.

Overall Winner Director of the Year

This award is for the overall Director of the Year. The winner will be a director who has shown outstanding leadership in the face of either difficult internal issues or tough market conditions, and who is able to point to outstanding achievements in their business during the course of the previous 12 months. Finalists for this award will be the winners of the other categories at the ceremony.

Large Company Director of the Year

Open to directors of companies with an annual turnover of over £100million.

Mid-Market Director of the Year

GE Capital is delighted to be involved in the UK final of the IoD Director of the Year Awards 2016. The judges will be looking for an individual who demonstrates deep industry expertise, is respected by their peers and with the imagination and courage to be a true growth champion for the business and market segment in which they operate. Open to all directors of companies with an annual turnover of £10-£99.9 million.

SME Company Director of the Year

Open to directors of companies with an annual turnover of under £10million.

Family Business Director of the Year

Entrants for this award will be directors in second-generation or more family businesses and will have responded to the specific challenges that face directors in such well-established family firms.

Young Director of the Year

To enter for this award, directors must be under the age of 42 and must be able to point to outstanding achievements at work in the previous 12 months.

Public Sector Director of the Year

Open to directors whose organisation is directly funded, owned or subsidised by national or local government.

Not for Profit/Third Sector Director of the Year

Open to directors whose business is a charity or not for profit organisation, which can generate a surplus, but exists to service the good of the community.

International Director of the Year

Open to all directors in UK-based companies with overseas sales. The entrant must be able to show that a minimum of 25% of the company’s turnover comes from overseas sales (outside of the UK) and must be successful in exporting, and committed to continued growth in the international arena.

Leadership in Corporate Responsibility Director of the Year

Open to those directors who are able to demonstrate that, through their direct actions and leadership, their business has made a positive impact on the local community wider society and/or the environment.

Non-executive Director of the Year

This award seeks to recognise the important role that non-executive directors can play on a board of a company, regardless of its size. The entrants will hold a non-executive director position within a company, public or third sector organisation and be able to highlight the role that they have played in its overall success and growth.

New Chartered Director of the Year

This award recognises the best new Chartered Director (CDir) elected in the past 12 months. Selection for this award is based purely on the marks and grades achieved through the examination and interview process.

Student Member of the Year Award

This award is focused on recognising students who have implemented brilliant and innovative projects that have created real tangible value for a particular audience and fall into one of the following three categories:

  • Start up business project
  • A project developed in an academic career which had commercial viability
  • A project in the course of employment that added value to the company
