IoD responds to first meeting with new Business Secretary
IoD Director General Jonathan Geldart was delighted to join his first call with the new Business Secretary, Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP, this morning (July 9th).
Commenting on the discussion, Jonathan Geldart said:
“In the lead up to the General Election, the IoD appreciated the willingness of Labour to work in partnership with business. We hope that this positive collaboration will continue. This meeting was a good first step.
“The Secretary of State faces some daunting challenges. It is imperative that the economy starts growing again. Labour and skills shortages are persistent issues for our members. The UK must sustain its position of leadership in the green economy and in the application of AI. We also need an industrial and growth strategy that will unlock private investment and underpin long-term confidence in UK economic competence and stability.
“We applaud the new government’s commitment to embedding higher standards of conduct and ethics into public life. There is also a pressing need to rebuild public trust in the UK business community. We hope that the Secretary of State will work with the IoD in rolling out our planned Code of Conduct for Directors – developed by a commission under the chairmanship of Lord (Iain) McNicol of West Kilbride – given the key role that directors play in all kinds of organisations.”
