IoD announces collaboration with the Royal Scottish Geographical Society to offer online professional development on sustainability
The Institute of Directors is delighted to announce a strategic collaboration with the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. Core to the collaboration is a shared goal to support the development of directors and boards in the critical area of sustainability, so that we can tackle the climate crisis together and create a positive legacy for generations to come.
Our call to action is to encourage the business community to be part of the solution – sustainability should be one of the key items on any board’s agenda right now. Many organisations, particularly in light of the disruption caused by the pandemic, do not know where to start. This is where IoD professional development comes in, providing practical guidance, tools and a community of expert peers across sectors, industries and global locations to enable change from the top down.
The ‘Climate Solutions Accelerator’ programme is a high-quality, interactive online course, curated by industry experts. It is now accredited for IoD CPD and available to IoD members free of charge. Since RSGS launched the programme over 60,000 learners have signed up.
Jonathan Geldart, Director General of the IoD, said:
“It is vital that directors acquire the knowledge and skills needed to combat climate change – working together as a business community will make an enormous difference to our economy and society. We can drive the solution forward and now is the time to grasp the opportunity in front of us to lead sustainable organisations. We are delighted to be working with RSGS to offer the Climate Solutions Accelerator, which complements our growing portfolio of high quality continuing professional development for directors and their boards.”
Mike Robinson, Chief Exec of RSGS said “I cannot think of a better partner than IoD to collaborate on this course to help managers and directors get up to speed quickly in what must be the most critical issue of our generation. The adoption of the climate solutions course by IoD will surely set a powerful precedent for what we should be expecting from organisations responding to the climate emergency. Climate understanding is becoming essential knowledge for anyone in management who wants to be in a position to respond to what is likely to be a rapidly changing customer, legislative, and financial framework as the world responds to climate change. This course is aimed to make it as easy as possible to get up to speed quickly and we hope it will become universal.
Mark Carney, who was interviewed for the course whilst Governor of the Bank of England is unequivocal: “Every business is going to have to ask themselves…how will Climate Change affect my business today, tomorrow, in the decades ahead, and how am I adjusting to be part of the solution?”
