IoD welcomes ‘important step’ towards Heathrow runway
Responding to the publication of the National Policy Statement on airport capacity, which paves the way for a new runway at Heathrow, Stephen Martin, of the Institute of Directors, said:
“This is an important step towards finally getting a new runway built. IoD members overwhelmingly feel the airport expansion is needed to provide them with the vital links to growing markets. As we embark on the journey towards Brexit, reaching out to the world outside the EU has never been more important. More flights mean more trade, and more prosperity for the UK.
“Ministers are right to consult widely on issues including pollution and improving public transport links to Heathrow. Clearly this is contentious project, but now the decision has been made, it is in the national interest that the Government sees it through.”
