IoD press release New rules will strengthen transparency, accountability and trust in the UK’s political system
Responding to the Government’s announcement of new measures in the Representation of the People Bill to enhance transparency and security around political donations, Jonathan Geldart, Director General of the Institute of Directors, said:
“The Institute of Directors welcomes the Government’s strengthened rules to prevent foreign interference in UK elections. Greater transparency in political donations and tighter safeguards against overseas influence are essential components of a modern, resilient democratic system.
“Good governance is the foundation of a healthy economy. Just as businesses are expected to uphold high standards of accountability, it is vital that our political institutions meet the same expectations. These reforms will help rebuild confidence in the rules that underpin both our political and economic frameworks.
“A secure and trusted electoral environment is crucial for long-term business confidence and investment. We support measures that reinforce the integrity of our democratic processes and ensure the UK remains a stable and attractive place to do business.”
