IoD launches free Boardroom Foundations course for aspiring directors
The Institute of Directors has today launched Boardroom Foundations, a free online course designed to support individuals preparing to step into the boardroom, and those seeking a clearer understanding of the value of effective governance.
The course reflects the IoD’s commitment under its Royal Charter to promote, for the public benefit, high standards of skill, knowledge and integrity among directors and those in equivalent roles across the private and public sectors.
Boardroom Foundations introduces the essentials of governance and boardroom leadership over five weeks of flexible online learning. It covers the core responsibilities of directors, the importance of effective decision-making, and the strategic value of good governance. Participants will explore expert insights, real-world case studies, and practical tools to help them manage risk, navigate boardroom dynamics, and begin shaping their own development plan for future governance roles.
Kirsty McManus, Director of Professional Development Services at the Institute of Directors, said:
“Our Royal Charter challenges us to raise standards of leadership and governance in the public interest, and this free course is a clear expression of that mission. Boardroom Foundations opens the door to the boardroom for those who may be starting their leadership journey or simply looking to understand what good governance looks like. It’s accessible, practical, and grounded in the values that define responsible business.”
