IoD appoints former Small Business Commissioner as Special Adviser
The Institute of Directors has announced the appointment of Liz Barclay as Special Adviser for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
Barclay will work with the IoD to advise on ways that SMEs can adopt technology to help create a growth mindset and risk appetite which will allow them to succeed.
Speaking about her appointment, Liz Barclay said:
“I am delighted to join the IoD in championing the spirit of entrepreneurship and supporting the growth of small businesses across the UK.
“The Institute’s is an important voice for business as we try and achieve a step-change in UK economic growth. I am looking forward to working with the team to unlock potential and ensure every entrepreneur has the tools and support to thrive.”

Liz Barclay joined the Institute of Directors on Tuesday 1 July 2025.
