IoD joins forces with INSEAD Alumni Balance in Business to launch Balance in Business Awards

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has joined forces with INSEAD Alumni Balance in Business (BiB) to launch the BiB Awards 2023.

The awards focus on gender balance at executive committee (Exco) and direct report (D/R) level. It is supported by the FTSE Women Leaders Review, whose data will be used as the basis for the awards. Entries for the awards are being sought from the UK’s FTSE 350 companies and the top 50 private companies. The awards dinner will be held on Tuesday 9 May 2023 at the IoD’s prestigious headquarters in Pall Mall.

Companies may enter in one of the following awards categories:

  • Trailblazer Exco & D/Rs (FTSE 100, FTSE 250, private companies)
  • Best overall Exco, D/Rs and Board representation
  • Best Strategy
  • Most Impact

The event will feature keynote speakers to be announced at a later date.

IoD Director General, Jonathan Geldart, said: “The IoD is a champion of gender balance at a senior level on boards. These awards will shine a spotlight on the companies and organisations at the forefront of this important issue and will show others how they can get it right too.”

Florence Hamilton, Founder and Lead, INSEAD Alumni Balance in Business Initiative, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the IoD to launch the Balance in Business Awards. We have created the BiB Awards to recognise those organisations who are leading the way through innovation, re-designing policies and levelling the playing field for women and men in the workplace. Together, we hope, that by sharing and collaborating, we help in shifting the pace a little.”

INSEAD is one of the leading global business schools in the world. The UK INSEAD Alumni Balance in Business Initiative is a community of INSEAD alumni volunteers, who have come together with the aim of engaging and inspiring current and future leaders on why Balance in Business matters, how to implement it and to recognize the value it creates.

In October 2022, the IoD launched a business paper ‘The Future of Business: harnessing diverse talent for success’ which provides practical guidance for employers on how to create working environments in which all talent – with specific reference to disability, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation – can thrive and contribute to business bottom-line and growth.
