IoD supports government action to maintain level playing field for British business

In response to the Chancellor’s plans for maintaining level playing field for British business and mitigating the impacts of practices such as potential future ‘dumping’ of cheap goods into the UK, Emma Rowland, Trade Policy Advisor at the Institute of Directors, said:

“The imposition of tariffs and ensuing trade war between the US and China has created an uncertain landscape for business. Our own data shows that a significant majority of businesses affected by President Trump’s tariffs expect their profits to be negatively affected.

“Members are telling us that they are concerned at the extent to which they will be undercut by an influx of cheaper goods diverted from the US market, particularly originating from China.

“We therefore support all government action to ensure UK businesses can trade in a fair and competitive environment.”
