In conversation with your Bucks and Milton Keynes IoD branch ambassadors Amanda Webb
This week we meet Amanda Webb, our interim Chair who has been an IoD members since March 2017.
Hi Amanda, what is your role on the committee?
I am the interim Chair and I am also responsible for partnerships.
What one thing do you hope to achieve in your role?
My main aim is to provide opportunities and events for our members and guests to learn and push their boundaries. I am also keen to create collaboration with key businesses for our branch.
What prompted you join the IoD?
I wanted to extend my own boundaries and be among like-minded individuals. This was particularly important to me as the founder of my own business.
What benefits have you seen from being a member of the IoD?
I have met some amazing people and heard some really interesting and inspiring stories. Most of all, I have noticed that I have smashed through where I thought my boundaries were and I now don’t believe they even exist in reality; they are were you put them.
What’s your favourite way to answer the question “What do you do?”
I am a problem solver, an enabler. I identify problems and I solve them. Now that I have more than one business, and they are very different from each other, I can’t say I do one thing. What I can say is that both are there to solve a problem, meet a need and help people.
When you’re not working, what would we find you doing?
Being a mum! I’m usually running around after my 6-year-old and I have recently returned to the gym, which I love. Exercise is so important to me. I also really enjoy reading and listening to podcasts about spirituality, personal development and understanding how humans engage with each other and life.
What is your dream holiday?
When my son is older it would be a trip with him and my husband to dive in the Galapagos. I love being underwater and I confess I have a bit of a thing for sharks, they are incredible and totally misunderstood!
What’s your hidden talent?
Oh crickey. I really don’t think I have one because I’m very much what you see is what you get. I don’t hide anything! Hmm, perhaps I should! I guess my diving skill has become a hidden talent, I used to be a bit of a “wreckie”, I loved diving wrecks. I will again.
If you could give your 18 year old self some advice, what would it be?
To focus on the now and leave the past where it belongs, behind you, and don’t worry about what you think might happen in the future. Focus on the here and now and do something you are passionate about!
