Speakers

Anna Leach, Chief Economist, IoD

Anna is a macroeconomics and policy professional, and was most recently Deputy Chief Economist at the CBI. She brings a wealth of experience in macroeconomic and business survey analysis, as well as policy analysis and strategic planning. Anna previously worked in the Government Economic Service in various roles at the Department for Work and Pensions and HM Treasury.

Councillor Peter Schwier,Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste Reduction & Recycling

Peter Schwier has been a district councillor for nine years and was elected to Essex County Council in 2021 and subsequently became the Council’s Climate Czar. He is also Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste Reduction and Recycling.

Climate action is a high priority for Essex County Council. This will involve many different initiatives, moving towards becoming carbon neutral as soon as possible

By profession, Peter is a retired farmer with a degree in agriculture, giving him a close working relationship and understanding of the environment. He also has experience running a small engineering business.

Hunter Hampton-Matthews, Head of Growth at the Good Business Charter

Helping organisation on their responsible business journey while creating a sign post to guide people to these ethical organisations. I've worked for Julian Richer the founder of the GBC for 10 years, who created the GBC frame work of the back of his successful business based around looking after his employees.

Loretta Hoy, Green Sector Growth Manager at Essex County Council

Loretta and her team work to ensure Essex businesses capitalise on “The Greatest Economic Opportunity of the 21st Century”; the transition to net zero. We facilitate business expansion, job creation, and innovation, driving a growth in GVA. Our focus is on fostering partnerships that champion a fair and green economic transition. We aim to articulate the economic benefits of sustainable processes and practices to businesses and inspire residents of the job opportunities associated.

Pam Cox, MP for Colchester

Pam Cox was elected as the new MP for Colchester in the 2024 General Election. Prior to that she held a range of leadership roles at the University of Essex as a professor of social science, including that of director of a large southeast skills training consortium with strong industry and international links. Pam has served as a Colchester city councillor since 2021 and as the portfolio holder for heritage and culture from 2022-23. She is connected to a number of All Party Parliamentary Groups, including the East of England APPG and the Key Cities APPG.

Paul Durrant, Chair, IoD Essex

Paul is the current serving chair for the Essex branch of the IoD and has been a member of the Insititute for over ten years. Paul represents the public face for the IoD on local, county and regional matters. He also has a collaborative and co-ordinating role in supporting and mentoring a team of branch ambassadors, to achieve branch goals through principles of good governance.

Ryan Swann, Audit Partner - MHA

Ryan joined MHA as an Audit Partner in 2023, following 15 years within our Baker Tilly International network, including 10 with Baker Tilly Hong Kong.

Ryan has extensive, in-depth knowledge and experience in International Financial Reporting Standards, having worked closely with a wide range of large multinational clients, providing a global service in audit and other advisory services.

Whilst in Hong Kong, Ryan also Chaired Baker Tilly International’s Asia Pacific Audit and Assurance Committee and was a member of the Global Focus Steering Committee.

Ryan’s broad international experience enables him to deliver seamless, value-added services to clients.
