Blockchain and NFTs How these disruptive technologies are shaping the business world
It is widely acknowledged that Blockchain technology is being adopted faster than any other technology in human history, with more than half the Fortune 100 developing Blockchain initiatives to stay competitive, according to a recent report by Coinbase.
It took the Internet 20 years to reach 500 million users. On the current trajectory it will take Blockchain less than 10. It took 20 years for the number of mobile phone users to reach 1 billion. It is estimated it will take Blockchain less than half this time to reach that number.
Although Blockchain adoption is still in its early stages, it is growing rapidly. This growth is being driven by the increasing number of businesses and organisations that are adopting blockchain technology and the variety of applications in the ecosystem, such as financial services, supply chain management and healthcare.
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and the tokenisation of digital assets is a big part of the Blockchain ecosystem with NFTs becoming a $40 billion market in 2021.
NFTs are essentially digital ownership certificates registered on a Blockchain, and one of the reasons they are so popular is the fact they can take countless forms from digital works of art to trading cards, such as video clips of NBA plays. As the market for NFTs continue to grow, we’re going to see the creation of more platforms to showcase them and manage transactions. They also give creators a way to remove the middleman and earn from the resales of the asset for continuum.
