A strong foundation for growth is firmly in place

Our Annual Report and Accounts 2021 reflects on a year of moving forward

We are now seeing the results of the hard work we have done over the last two years to transform the IoD, with a strong foundation for growth firmly in place. Though many challenges remain, we can afford to be much more positive about the outlook.

The pandemic has transformed how businesses and organisations work and underlined the crucial role we continue to play in supporting members to develop their leadership skills and ensuring government support for them as the economy recovered.

Annual Report and Accounts 2021

IoD Director General, Jonathan Geldart, shares his plans for the IoD’s future

Our plans for the next five years focus on three areas – governance, director development and representing the interests of our members to government – in Whitehall, the devolved nations, and the regions. We are pre-eminent in the work that we do and we’re incredibly privileged to have the access to government that we have.

We understand the impact of good governance in business. We are, if you like, the governance people. If you want to see better quality governance across the UK and beyond so that good businesses can be run by good directors for the benefit, not only of those businesses, but also for the sustainability of employment, and the UK and wider world economy, then come to the IoD.

We support directors and leaders in a powerful, structured way to understand the impact of what they do. We can provide the courses to help you become the best director and leader you can be. We can connect you to your peers across the UK. You may question why you need to connect with other directors in your local area, but it is because you might learn something. We’re never too old, too smart, or too experienced to learn more. By using the IoD to help you, you can unlock some immensely powerful learnings for yourself and your board. This year’s report highlights a cross section of our member who’ve done just that.
