Joy is a Chartered Director, and has specialised in governance and leadership development for the last 12 years. Prior to starting her own business, Joy was a chief executive for over a decade. Joy’s interest in governance came about as a result of working with CEOs and the realisation that improving the skills of board members is essential for ensuring organisational performance anddeveloping a healthy working culture.
Joy has over 20 years’ experience as a board member in a range of sectors. She was a non-executive director of the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, one of the largest trusts in Europe, with 20,000 staff and an annual budget in excess of£1 billion, for seven years. Joy chaired the board of Simon Community NI for 2 years and VOYPIC (Voice of Young People in Care) for two years. She sat on the board of the Fostering Network UK for four years and was a non-executive director of the Ulster Community & Hospitals Trust for seven years. Joy is joining the board of Alzheimer’s Society UK and is a director of two private sector companies.
Professional credentials and training experience
Joy became a Chartered Director after achieving both the Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction. She holds a masters degree in executive leadership and a masters level qualification in executive coaching and leadership mentoring. Joy regularly delivers governance training and support to boards in the private, public and voluntary sector. She co-delivers the Leading Effective Boards programme at the William J. Clinton Institute of Leadership, Queen’s University.
