Martin Davies joined the IoD Advisory Service in 1999.
He provides advice on a wide range of issues, including the legal aspects of company structures, boardroom practice and directors' responsibilities. He specialises in copyright and intellectual property, including business names, trade marks, patents, and commercial contracting matters.
Mr Davies, formerly an in-house company solicitor but now by choice non-practising, provides consultancy services to small and medium sized companies who require advice and assistance across the whole range of corporate and commercial issues other than finance-based which they encounter, whether in start-up or on an ongoing basis.
In doing so he draws upon a wealth of practice and experience gained from a number of appointments including:
- Senior Solicitor with Thorn EMI Plc from 1982-1985
- Operational Head of Legal Department to The Plessey Company Plc from 1985-89 and
- Group Legal Adviser (and later Company Secretary) of Innovations Group Plc from 1991 until its market acquisition by the then Burton Group Plc. (now demerged and re-named Arcadia Group Plc)
He still retains an indirect connection with the last-named company, by way of serving as a trustee and chairman of the Pension Trust of the subsidiary which survived following the acquisition of Innovations Group.
He has also, since becoming a consultant, been involved in the presentation of numerous public and in-house seminars delivered to directors and company secretaries in respect of the statutory and common law duties in regard to their office.
