IoD Northern Ireland has established the NED Register to help local companies find a non-executive director who is equipped with the experience and knowledge to contribute effectively to your Board.
The Institute believes that all firms can benefit from appointing effective non-executive directors to their Boards. Research carried out by Ulster University student, Caoimhe McGuinness, Exploring the role of the Non-Executive Directors in Firms in Northern Ireland, identifies the value that a NED can bring. View the report highlights here.
The IoD NED Register is a database of IoD members, who have demonstrated that they understand the role and responsibilities of a non-executive director. Our candidates will have taken part in reputable and relevant Board training and/or have current or recent Board experience in executive or non-executive positions. The members will also have committed to undertaking ongoing professional development for their role as a non-executive director (minimum of 10 hours of relevant CPD pa).
To apply for the NED Register, please complete the NED Register application form and return it to the IoD office in Belfast by email firstname.lastname@example.org or post to IoD, Riddel Hall, 185 Stranmillis Road, Belfast BT9 5EE.
Anyone, who is not a current Institute member, may apply to the NED Register but will not be accepted until they join the IoD.
IoD recommends that prospective NEDs undertake due diligence on the company they are considering joining.
Organisations seeking a NED
- A company seeking a NED from the NED Register can access anonymised biographies of IoD members on the NED Register.
- If there is someone on the Register that you would like to follow up with, please email IoD office indicating the relevant NED Register number. We will provide more information and provide you with a contact for the NED.
- If there is no one suitable for your needs on the Register, you can complete the NED Register company application form and return it to the IoD office. We will try and identify other potential NEDs, who may not yet have joined the Register, for you to consider.
- The company should then undertake its own interview/recruitment process, requesting CVs and undertaking due diligence on their prospective NEDs.
Companies seeking a NED should be aware that the non-executive director from the Register should be paid for their services.
Note: no charge is made by the IoD for access to The NED Register.
