While Brexit may continue to dominate politics for the foreseeable future, the 2019 General Election can't all be about our departure from the EU. British businesses need domestic reform to be put back on the front foot. This means all parties must come forward with ambitious visions to drive up UK productivity and competitiveness.
The last few years of uncertainty have sapped the economy, which has risked pushing businesses behind the global curve. As such, in the first of a series of manifesto papers for the December 2019 election campaign, following consultations with members, the IoD is calling for the new Government to reinvigorate the business environment with a fresh set of proposals to incentivise investment, boost the skills pipeline, and drive-up regional growth and connectivity. The Brexit impasse may have brought about this election, but that doesn’t mean it should engulf it.
