The IoD has launched a Brexit readiness roadshow to help directors prepare as the UK enters the final weeks of the transition period.
The UK is leaving the EU Single Market and Customs Union so directors must adapt to new rules concerning travel, employment and the import and export of goods – with negotiations still ongoing - from 1 January 2021.
The IoD has joined forces with Deloitte for a series of regional Masterclass events, which will give members a deeper understanding of the latest guidance – and what they can do to prepare their organisations.
Speakers include: Allie Renison, Head of Trade & EU Policy at the IoD; Raoul Ruparel, Adviser to Deloitte and former special adviser to the Prime Minister on Europe; Zoe Hawes, Director, Global Brexit Insights at Deloitte; and James Caldecourt, Adviser to Deloitte and former special adviser at the Department for International Trade.
Each event will include an update on the UK’s negotiations with the EU and the rest of the world, as well as itemising actions that directors should undertake ahead of January. Attendees can ‘ask the experts’ at the end of each session.
The dates are:
Northern Powerhouse - Thursday 26 November, 12-1pm
Scotland - Friday 27 November, 12-1pm
Midlands Engine – Thursday 3 December, 2-3pm
London and East of England – Thursday 10 December, 10am
In a recent IoD survey, only around a fifth of company directors said their organisation was fully prepared for the end of the transition period, with almost a quarter not expecting to be ready by the end of the year. The majority of respondents said that Covid-19 would exacerbate the impact of a no deal outcome.
Allie Renison, Head of EU and Trade Policy at the IoD, said: “The clock is ticking towards the end of the transition period. Getting ready for no deal in the middle of a pandemic is a colossal task for many businesses so it’s imperative that the Government works closely with directors to aid their planning.
“Attendees at our Masterclass events with Deloitte will hear the latest information and advice, with the opportunity to share their questions, insights and issues with our expert panel.”
The events are exclusively for IoD members and their guests.
