Brian Hall - Chair
A Chartered Director whose commitment to the IoD spans two decades, Brian was appointed Chair of the Global Trade Taskforce on its creation in 2021.
Brian brings his perspective as a long serving member of the IoD Council and his experience as a Regional Chair in the West Midlands to this important new role.
Outside the IoD Brian has over twenty years’ experience as a main Board Director dealing with stakeholders like the FSA and CQC and believes strongly that the strength of the UK’s internal regulation adds to the value we can bring to overseas markets.
As a prior member of the IoD Brexit Committee Brian has long believed that a key building block of the UK’s future prosperity is our ability to maximise on the opportunities opened up by our need, now, to broaden our outlook. ‘must do, is a great master’ he says and so as we now must learn the disciplines of exporting for our near markets, we have the opportunity to leverage these same skills for more distant horizons.
Rick has 30 years’ experience of leading UK and international banking, fiduciary and investment subsidiaries and managing change programmes in leading banking groups and a family office business. Now he is a director/NED working with international entrepreneurs, their boards and specialist financial service and investment businesses, as well as providing coaching to next generation leaders and boards of typically recently formed and fast-growing businesses.
As director and founder of Denton Lovel Associates, he has led consulting projects in strategic change, mergers and acquisitions, investment projects, corporate governance, and training and development.
Rick has an MBA with distinction from Warwick University. He is a qualified banker, trustee and investment professional. He also achieved the Henley Certificate in Executive Coaching and the Institute of Director’s Diploma in Company Direction. He is an expert speaker at professional forums covering strategy, corporate governance, marketing, trends in the development of global fiduciary businesses, Indian, Asian and Middle Eastern business developments, and corporate governance for family offices.
Rick originally joined the Institute of Directors in London in 1992. Now based in Guernsey, he continues as an active member of the Institute locally and was elected as its first international branch representative on the Institute’s National Council in 2017. He has participated in the Institute’s Brexit advisory group and leads the Council’s involvement in the project to expand the Institute internationally with a consistent value proposition.
David is the Managing Director of Fortis Consulting London, founded 2010, whose main activities are business matching, UK market entry & expert briefings. The Partner Network helps firms engage with companies and organisations in the UK and internationally. He is also the Strategy Director for Medical Prime an independent private GP and Menopause service in the City of London.
David is Special Advisor, International at the Institute of Directors. Prior to this he was Chair of the Institute of Directors (IoD), London Region and prior to this Chair of IoD City of London. David engages with members of the Central Government, Local Government, diplomats, business leaders and their senior teams, to discuss how to ‘drive up business performance’. He has spoken within several embassies and high commissions, the House of Lords, the House of Commons, The Mansion House, Chartered Accountants Hall & the Law Society.
David is a Board Member of the 48 Group Club, the Chair of the International Trade Group of the British Malaysian Society) and a member of the Anglo-Thai Society. Fortis Consulting London is a member of the British Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and the British Chamber of Commerce in Thailand.
David is a frequent participant at conferences contributing to a wide range of subjects, including innovation, entrepreneurship, business development and the need for effective communication between international business cultures.
David is an owning director of First Ascent, focussed on advising Boards and Executive teams on strategic transformation, leadership skills, culture change and global growth. He is also a director of Emergenetics UK, a global psychometric provider, supporting organisations to transform culture. David is Head of Training at St Johns Innovation Centre in Cambridge (an innovation incubator) working with senior government officials and private companies to develop innovation infrastructures.
He also has over 20 years of experience in a global telecommunications company, spanning sales, marketing, digital transformation, product management and customer service. This included being a CEO for a global business that he grew from £10m turnover to £120m turnover in 6 years.
David is respected conference speaker, where the brain science of leadership and culture change are his favourite topics.
He is a long committed voluntary supporter of the IoD, as a Branch Chair, Regional Chair and Council Member. He is now an advisor to the IoD on areas where his experience is valuable, including growing the IoD’s professional development portfolio.
His education includes Cambridge (BA & MA) and Warwick Universities (MBA), INSEAD, the Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Directors.
Emma Rowland - IoD Junior Policy Advisor
Emma joined the IoD in March 2021 to support the Press Office and Policy Team.
She graduated from Cardiff University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. She particularly focused on modern political and economic history, and wrote her dissertation on the relationship between China and Hong Kong.
