Global Trade

Welcome to the IoD Global Trade Hub

The IoD and its members around the world hold an astonishing wealth of knowledge, experience and connections that allow peer-to-peer sharing, as well as strong relationships between our Institute and Governments that give you direct access to the top table to share concerns, ideas and success stories.

With respect to the UK, Brexit has changed the reality of trading internationally (both export and import).

Initiating global trade can be daunting for those who have no previous experience in doing so. But thanks to post-pandemic advances, such as the growth of digital communications and virtual meetings, the world is smaller, faster and within closer reach than ever before.

The IoD's connections and influence allow IoD members to develop trade through signposting, education and expertise, and take advantage of the developing imperative and opportunity of global trade.

We are here to support you in your initiatives, and draw on the knowledge of our members to succeed in global trade – whether this is a new diversification, or your longstanding business model.

The IoD Global Trade hub is a curated collection of relevant, up-to-date, and engaging resources for organisations and directors to reach their full global potential.

IoD events are specifically designed to take the 'work' out of networking and enhance your knowledge on key business topics.

We host events in a variety of venues across the UK and you’ll find us in all major cities from London to Edinburgh, as well as virtually. Take a look at our upcoming sustainability events to find out what’s happening in your area and online.

IoD Global Trade Taskforce

Brian Hall

Brian Hall - Chair

A Chartered Director whose commitment to the IoD spans two decades, Brian was appointed Chair of the Global Trade Taskforce on its creation in 2021.

Brian brings his perspective as a long serving member of the IoD Council and his experience as a Regional Chair in the West Midlands to this important new role.

Outside the IoD Brian has over twenty years’ experience as a main Board Director dealing with stakeholders like the FSA and CQC and believes strongly that the strength of the UK’s internal regulation adds to the value we can bring to overseas markets.

As a prior member of the IoD Brexit Committee Brian has long believed that a key building block of the UK’s future prosperity is our ability to maximise on the opportunities opened up by our need, now, to broaden our outlook. ‘must do, is a great master’ he says and so as we now must learn the disciplines of exporting for our near markets, we have the opportunity to leverage these same skills for more distant horizons.
