From 12-14 March the IoD’s headquarters at 116 Pall Mall will be transformed into a business festival. Unlike other similar events there will be the option to pick and choose the events and themes that are most relevant to you and your business.
From finding new markets overseas to attracting (and keeping) the best talent and the rise of automation to the threat of cyber crime, we will bring together experts to prepare you for the biggest opportunities and challenges facing UK businesses of all sizes.
Here are some key facts and figures to help you find out more about our unconventional convention:
10 – At 10am on Tuesday 13 March, Baroness Karren Brady CBE will deliver a keynote speech. West Ham United’s Vice-Chairman and Government Ambassador for Small Business will be speaking on 2018’s most promising markets and how you can expand your business with them in mind.
74 – According to government statistics, last year 74 per cent of small organisations reported a security breach. In our Practical Guide to Cyber Security, Paul Forrest of Purple Management Consulting will be speaking on cyber security strategies and how to stay ahead of tomorrow’s threats on Wednesday 14 March at 3.10pm. Paul is also a mentor at Virgin StartUp and Google Campus.
11 – Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is one of Britain’s greatest Paralympic athletes, having won 11 gold medals. Tanni will be speaking on how ensuring your employees’ wellbeing at work can boost your bottom line on Monday 12 March at 3.10pm.
6 – China is our sixth biggest trading partner in terms of export sales which amounted to £21.2bn in 2017 – a year on year increase of 17%. Elsewhere, Turkey and South Korea were the fastest growing regions in terms of exports. We will be running several sessions to help you grow your business overseas.
5 – Every day at 5pm there will be an opportunity to meet some of our guest speakers and network with other delegates in both the Wine Bar and Café Duke at 116 Pall Mall.
116 – The venue for Open House is the IoD’s HQ at 116 Pall Mall - a location steeped in history dating back 200 years. The 15ft Regency chandelier, which still hangs above the main staircase, was a gift from George IV to commemorate victory in the Battle of Waterloo.
7 – With 13.5 million people living with a disability in the UK, how can workplaces change, grow and develop to include this highly valuable group of people and, in turn, drive innovation and growth? Mike Adams is the CEO of Purple which connects businesses and people with disabilities and will be giving a seminar titled Meet the 7% on Wednesday 14 March at 12.15pm.
55 – There are currently 55 Leon restaurants located in the UK and Northern Europe, with plans to expand into America. Henry Dimbleby was a co-founder of this Great British success story and on Monday 12 March at 2pm he will reveal how a business can go from grassroots to global and remain true to its original values.
1 - Nis Arend is the founder of The Corporate Confidante. She will reveal the skills the top 1% leaders have mastered and how they’ve overcome challenges to get to the top of their game without leaving a trail of tired teams in their path on Tuesday 13 March at 3.10pm.
5 – A digital transformation programme is one of the most important stages in the evolution of any business. Lindsay Herbert has an invaluable wealth of experience in creating innovation programmes for a diverse range of major companies and organisations including IBM, Hong Kong Central Bank and British Heart Foundation. She will define and distil transformation success into five major stages on Tuesday 13 March at 12.15pm
2038 – From unimaginable technological advances to changes in working lifestyles, Open House will conclude with a glimpse at the future of business in 2038 featuring a keynote speech from IoD Director General Stephen Martin on Wednesday 14 March at 4.15pm.
