Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time. From speaking to IoD members, we understand that it is a topic that features highly on the business agenda, but one on which you require further information and advice.
From our research, an overwhelming number of business leaders recognise climate change and its effect on the environment as one of the most significant challenges facing companies today. Indeed, upwards of 90% of IoD members are looking to take action on the topics surrounding sustainability in business, but many of them are at a loss for where to begin. Designing and launching ambitious climate initiatives might be realistic for a large corporate organisation, but the reality for SMEs is starkly different. That being said, there are a number of easily actionable steps that you can make to ensure your business is doing its bit in the race against time to tackle the climate emergency.
As a starting point, it is worth considering establishing a Sustainability Champions Programme within your organisation. Planet First, whose CEO Steve Malkin sits on the IoD’s Sustainable Business Special Interest Group, are the founders of The Planet Mark initiative - in conjunction with The Eden Project – and have created the following toolkit which provides the insight you need to get the ball rolling.

Continuing the discussion around easily actionable steps for your business, the IoD will be hosting a webinar on Thursday 9th April aimed at how you can make your organisation carbon neutral.
The IoD’s Director of Policy – Edwin Morgan – will be joined by Special Interest Group member and founder of Eco-economix Rod Mountain, to discuss a list of measures that you will be able to take quickly and to positive effect. Find out more and register for free by clicking the link below.
