In early June 2018, IoD Director General Stephen Martin and the Secretary of State for Education Damian Hinds announced a joint initiative to encourage directors to use their skills to take on roles as school governors.
Stephen Martin and Damian Hinds wrote: "The direct links these pro-bono roles create between businesses and schools and colleges are unmatched. What’s more, encouraging staff to volunteer as governors can bring you enormous benefits. These roles provide an unparalleled opportunity to shape the leaders of today and tomorrow – supporting your current staff to develop their skills in a new environment and helping you improve the prospects for those coming up behind them.
Few other volunteer roles are likely to be as challenging and rewarding, and this can have a positive impact on staff confidence and commitment to their chosen career, and your business. "
Join us for a free and engaging webinar to address the benefits to both education and business that this move entails, and how school governance roles can pave the way for portfolio careers as non-executive directors.
The webinar will be chaired by Seamus Nevin, Head of Policy at the IoD, and will feature insights from:
Bernard Grenville-Jones, Chartered Director and former FE College governor
Mark Eydman, IoD member, LA governor and clerk to governors
James Jarvis, Corporate Governance Analyst, IoD.
If you have any burning questions for our speakers to cover throughout the webinar, or about the process of attaining and maintaining a school governor role, please send them to us at firstname.lastname@example.org for the Q&A.
