The IoD responded to the Government’s consultation on Minimum Unit Pricing, registering objections on three grounds.
First, that it would negatively affect British alcohol manufacturers as compared to foreign competitors; second, that it was a heavy-handed approach; and third, that it would encourage cross-border illicit trade. The IoD was pleased that the UK Government rejected Minimum Unit Price proposals. The UK’s drinks industry is a success story for the UK, and within reason, the Government should encourage its growth.
